The Quiet Fleet

The lid is warm when it opens, which is a courtesy someone built in on purpose, and the ship says good morning and gives you the date. You ask it to say the date again. It does, in exactly the same tone, and then — because you have not moved and it has been eleven seconds — it says that a full physical is available at your convenience and that there is soup.
